Snapshots At Ten

Father has been finding: cabbage patch dolls, their
heads lanced by #2 Eberhard pencils; a helmet-sized
fishbowl filled with grape Kool-Aid, five tender
bellies floating in the purple; a ceiling of hanged
Barbies, gray shoelaces snug around their slender
necks.
Father asked: "When you do these things are you doing
them to me?"
She said: "These are things I do."
Father found her in the kitchen, sitting in the dark,
drinking a beer.
She said: "I'll take the punishment, I like the taste
of this beer."
Father thinks: I never wanted to be this old.
